North East Visits | Birthday Afternoon Tea at The Blagdon Parlour

So a couple of days ago it was my 22nd birthday, eek I'm getting so old! I've mentioned before that me and my mams thing is to go for Afternoon Tea, I decided on The Blagdon Parlour. We've been a couple of times but never for Afternoon Tea and it always looked lovely. My mam booked us a table and it's just a short drive from mine in Cramlington. It was an awful rainy day and we were surprised it was packed to the rafters, I'd definitely recommend booking a table. The Afternoon Tea was £19 for 2 people, which I think is so reasonable, especially for the portion size, quality and nice setting.

We decided on a pot of Breakfast Tea and soon after our food arrived. There were 4 sandwich fillings, Italian Baked Ham with Tomato Chutney, Farmhouse Mature Cheddar Cheese Savoury, Egg Watercress and Black Pepper Mayo and Slow Roasted Topside of Beef and Creamed Horseradish. Obviously I didn't try the meat ones but the others were lovely. We then each had a decent sized scone with strawberry  jam and clotted cream, they were still warm and really well baked, super yummy!

Finally onto the mini desserts, it's the most I've seen on an Afternoon Tea and we weren't disappointed! There was an Italian Lemon Verbena Cake, so light and fluffy! A Walnut and Sultana Farmhouse Cake, this was also super light and spicy. Strawberry Shortbread, Rich Dark Chocolate and Coconut Truffle, this was something a bit different and I really liked it! Decadent Double Chocolate Cake, my least favourite, didn't have much flavour but was still alright. Zesty Lemon Meringue Tart, also a bit different and really tasty. Finally an Italian Fruit Panna Cotta, the start of the show, so flavourful, zesty, fruity but creamy and light too.

The Parlour can sometimes be a little hit or miss for us, the food is always delicious but the service has let it down in the past, although this visit was great, the service was quick and friendly. The only thing I would say is that tea or coffee should be unlimited, we had to pay for another pot, I imagine a lot of people do to as it's a lot of food. It's definitely better in the sunshine but nevertheless the setting is lovely, I think we're going to go back to try breakfast soon.
