Review | River Bar Washington

River Bar Washington

The River Bar in Washington has recently been redone and launched a brand new menu, I was kindly invited along to check it out.

This is how the bar is described on the website - "It’s clear to see that when it comes to atmosphere, we’ve raised a glass and doffed our cap to the legendary era of American prohibition. We’ve taken speakeasy to a whole new level with a uniquely stylish venue that oozes sophisticated cool. Behind our bar you’ll find some of the most creative mixologists around, with the skills to create the most impressively complex array of cocktails in town. And in our kitchen we’ve taken the best of what the American smokehouses do and added our own twist. Our smoker is king of the kitchen, powered by Hickory and Maple woods to give all our food a unique flavour."

The bar itself has a lovely decor and offers a delicious sounding menu. Me and my boyfriend were invited down on a Saturday night, Washington isn't really my neck of the woods, I don't think I've ever been out there ever. So when we trotted up at 7pm the bar was already quite busy. Luckily the lovely Collin who arranged our visit had reserved us a table.

When we arrived we were told the kitchen had just closed, although we were asked to come down from 7 onwards, however Collin had kept us some food back to sample which was great. We had 3 mini sliders, two beef and one chicken, I'm vegetarian so was a little disappointed I could only try the sweet potato fries, although they were delicious and my boyfriend enjoyed the sliders!

I also sampled 3 of the cocktails and my boyfriend had 1 since he was driving (isn't he a good'n!). The cocktail menu is extensive and was right up my street, some really unique and innovative combinations! The cocktails are also very reasonably priced! I first tried the Cotton Candy Tini which was really yummy and super sweet! My boyfriend had a Strawberry Daiquiri. I also tried a Raspberry Mojito and an Amaretto and Blueberry Mojito, both of which were gorgeous and refreshing.

By the time we left at about 9pm the place was getting quite rowdy, I think it's the kind of bar people go out to before going into town. Nevertheless the servers were all super polite and attentive, despite it being really busy! I would definitely go back here to try the food properly and sample some more cocktails! A special thanks to Collin who took great care of us!

*Food & drinks were very kindly complimentary, as always all opinions are my own.
